The application will reduce the possibility of sensitive data being accessed or exploited in the event that the device is lost or stole through a tracking function to recover the device. It is mandatory that the application’s agent is installed on ALL university owned laptops. This includes devices that were purchased through grants, non-appropriated and appropriated funds. There are no exceptions!"

Someone should point out that the horse is already out of the barn. 950 computers lost! Wonder where all the iPads handed out are? Have they gone missing, too?R. To wit: "It is imperative all communications be strategically deployed in a manner that safeguards the reputation . . ." What the hell does that mean? Are we supposed to infer that "communications" are analogous to troops in battle?
Or, "This policy applies to the following types of communications events." What are "communications events"? Continuing, how about: "the integrity of the Chicago State University brand must be protected; therefore, all branded content in the form of collateral like brochures." Again, what? The term "university brand" is little more than nonsensical corporate drool. "In the form of collateral . . .," collateral what? collateral damage? collateral for the loan? In English, is it still true that an adjective must modify a noun?
This is written by the person in charge of marketing and communication?Robert Bionazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04373965422772502091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7187403837913738089.post-35785005291710601922012-03-23T08:18:59.699-05:002012-03-23T08:18:59.699-05:00Another colleague of ours notes the incoherence of...Another colleague of ours notes the incoherence of what is being stated regardless of the attempt at attacking academic freedom:

"I cannot even make sense of it. It says “Communications meeting ALL of the following criteria must have approval from the Office of Enrollment Management, Division of Public Relations and Communications. To ensure this, it is the policy of Chicago State University.”

Then 1.1 says, “1 CSU, staff, faculty and representatives will comply with all laws and regulations regarding public disclosure of material events, financial results and operations.”

Presumably 1.1 is one of the criteria. Are we then to infer that if faculty will not comply with all laws and regulations, then the criteria are not met and therefore approval is not required?

They cannot write a coherent thought. If I received this from a student, I would hand it back and tell the student to re-write it so that it said what they meant."Cordayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11407012136671501643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7187403837913738089.post-25180952181573458002012-03-22T17:47:14.699-05:002012-03-22T17:47:14.699-05:00Blush, University, its....iPad keyboard, sigh.Blush, University, its....iPad keyboard, sigh.R. Of course this never works out in the long run, because as intelligent and competent people know, educated professionals do their best work when managed by leaders who know when to get out of the way. If the institution were being run by people who respect the Univeersity, it's students and the faculty, there would be no need for the kind of micro management and threats that are the coin of the current realm.R.
